About this blog
Many business owners I speak to feel that the web offers them potentially huge opportunities but they are confused as to how best to develop and run an effective internet strategy.
For 10 years I have been helping small businesses make effective use of the internet to reach new customers and this blog is a way to share ideas, know how and practical solutions that we can all apply to give our companies a competitive edge.
Some of the issues I want to discuss are enduring ones that just keep getting more important as the web evolves. I’d probably put usability at the top of the list of priorities for making your website stand out from the competition.
Other things I want to evaluate are current trends in the way people are using the web, such as how your business can benefit from social networking on sites like Twitter and Facebook.
I hope you will find this blog interesting and that at least some of the ideas help generate you more business!
My background in usability and internet marketing
Since 1984 I have been simplifying customer communications, as an information designer in the 1980s and 1990s and then as a website information architect since 2000. I have held senior consulting roles at SiegelGale and Publicis in London prior to running Fen Digital.
My emphasis is on helping businesses to improve their customer focus and to reach out more effectively to potential customers by publishing consistently clear and user-friendly communications that add value and build trust.
My main focus over the last 4 years has been in helping businesses gain a competitive edge through website optimisation, usability and SEO. This has resulted in development of the Top 100 Marketing platform which has a proven track record for promoting small businesses in Google.
My current focus is on adding value to Fen Digital’s services by exploiting the latest interactive technologies to create information that is both dynamic and engaging. Fen Digital’s goal is to keep at the forefront of the rapidly changing world of digital marketing as it applies to SMEs.
